Introduction
I was born and raised in Panama to a Zonian father and Panamanian mother. My father was also born and raised in Panama and worked for the Panama Canal Commission until 1999. My parents divorced when I was only three and my Dad later married a Colombian. My first language was Spanish and it was the language primarily used in my home. I struggled as I attended a D.O.D.D.S. or Department of Defense Dependent School where all subjects were taught in English. I finally became fully bi-lingual and began to gain confidence as a student in the fifth grade.
I moved to the United States in June of 1999, later I married a soldier in the U.S. Army, and we had our precious little girl, J.J., in 2006. L.J. came along in 2010, and we are now expecting our third child in December. I am an educator and have taken a year off to finish my Masters program and spend quality time with my children.
Although I am proud of my the place I grew up and once called home, I am ashamed to say that I haven't taught my little girl Spanish. She is now in first grade and has been accepted into the Dual Language Immersion Program at her school. This blog is dedicated to her as we venture into this new season of our lives. I am hoping for the best!
